On February 29, 1968 (a leap day), Surrey Arts Centre set the stage for its illustrious run of 50 years with a production of Brigadoon by Surrey Musical Productions. Leap ahead (pun intended) to spring 1996, when six co-writers and co-stars debuted their now world-renowned tour de force on parenthood: Mom’s the Word.

Over the next 20 years, the Main Stage at Surrey Arts Centre has played host to the original, a sequel, and a remix of no-holds-barred insider views of the ecstasies and absurdities of motherhood—including side-splitting confessionals on diaper soup and sex after children—while the series garnered awards and acclaim for performances on three continents.

The next installment of the franchise, Mom’s the Word 3: Nest ½ Empty, will be presented October 10 to 22, 2017, as part of the Arts Club Series in a celebration of exceptional lives, growing older, and noteworthy milestones—including the Surrey Arts Centre’s golden anniversary in 2018.
